Al Jazeera KLCC

It’s an immutable truth that where Al Jazeera focuses on, controversy follows. The news channel by the Emir of Qatar (Emir = title of Muslim ruler) broke onto the international scene with Al Jazeera English 5 years ago.

Initially, this news network started in 1996 was intended to dissent views via call-in shows and create controversies in the Arab states.

Today, Al Jazeera started in Doha, Qatar and has expanded its reach with 3 other main offices in Washington, London, and Malaysia.

All the 4 officers location symbolizes a diamond shape on the map. Of course, there are many other smaller bureaus located all over the world to obtain news first hand.

One day, my Computer Assisted Investigative Research lecturer, Miss Anita decided to bring us to tour around the 60^th floor of KLCC, which is the Al Jazeera KL office.

Often something will turn up in front of us that isn’t exactly what we expected. Arriving at the entrance of Al Jazeera after a few wrong elevator attempts; the only word that uttered out of my mouth was…simple!

Over discussions of the working environment here, Mr.Jayaganesh Sabapathy, Head of Technical Operations explains it could be quite hectic at the editing rooms.

Just like any other newsroom, TIK TOK TIK TOK, time is ticking and every second counts.

And one of their common jokes to keep them sane is nationality friendly tease. They call each other according to their nationality.

Just in time, they were broadcasting APEC 2009 news. Then it struck me, ‘If I jump into the set now, I’ll be famous!’ On the second thought, I asked Mr Jaya, ‘How many seconds delay to live?’ He answered with a smile, ‘8 seconds.’

There, within 8 seconds I could be cuffed up and send off to Guantanamo Bay. So, I lose that thought.

It doesn’t just happen, a lot of hard work required. Filtering stories, setting up camp base where the event happens. Sending reporters and compiling details. Editing quickly and broadcast it. Gosh, just for a minute or two news.

In the end, the trip turned out to be more than just a tour; it was a lifetime experience. The next time I return, I’ll be either working there or as a guest to be interviewed.

Time for a Quickie with 8TV

OK, listen up. I don't have all day here, so I am gonna make this fast!

Summarizing the 9 weeks at the 8TV Quickie have been hectic, but amazing. And yes, it is a casual working environment whereby everyone has a say in everything, despite the hierarchy.

Although I have to be honest; while I was ready for a challenge, I did not realize just how much work goes into cating a 15 minutes variety show and how many exciting events randomly materialize.

For example, you never know when you are going to be whisked away to a adventurous location (I went to Skytrex for a shoot!). Awesome experience where the park was exclusively open for us =D, no waiting, no line!

You also never know when you are going to have to hit the One Utama shopping mall, approach strangers and try to delve inside their minds. Now, I am confident to be able to approach anyone, and asking them anything, without even blushing the slightest bit.

To help my learning experience, Kumar, the Editor, Arnold, the Assistant Producer and Khairul, the Producer, have been extremely patient with my never-ending questions.

Of course, Saasha has been a great emotional support. Not forgetting, Amin who introduced me to Final Cut Pro, Helmi who we climbed mountains and flew on air together. Asman whois always helpful with my requestsss.

Izza who scan through hundreds of resume and found mine to fit into the Quickie team. Pet has been a good role model being the only girl left in the team since Shaz moved to Showdown. And, Shaz, my first encounter and teacher in handling camera and I still remember my role as an ASD (Assistant Studio Director)!

I have loved the experience and it is a perfect learning platform for anyone who wants to venture into production line.

The 8TV Quickie is a 15-minute variety show that airs every night at 11.30pm, except for Sundays at 12.00 midnight, on 8TV. Currently Prem, Julie Woon, Zher, Megan and Naqib are the hosts.

Typically the 15 minute show is divide into 2 segments with 3 minutes commercial in between. Each segment will take one lucky caller and in order to win the prizes, the caller will have to answer one simple question or fulfill the host’s request in relation to the content of the show.

The prizes vary everyday but usually movie passes and music album is given on everyday basis. CHOP! CHOP! What are you waiting for? Get your phones ready and call when the show starts.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! The start of a new year always fills me with nervous energy. A few questions I asked myself on a yearly basis:

What have I achieved in a year? What will the next 12 months bring? Am I making the most of my life and the experiences that come my way?

: I abide to these few rules

So, my 2009 New Year was kind of realistic which consist of 3 goals. They were: learn Chinese, start simple exercise and live healthily.

I started learning Chinese characters. I can’t read the Chinese newspaper yet but I could definitely sing out loud my favourite Cantonese songs (mostly by Sammi Cheng).

Anyone wanna sponsor me to Sammi's concert? =P

The exercise routine was religious but it lasted only 6 months. I do go for a fast walk on the treadmill twice a week and alternately I go for Yoga classes. There was a crazy 3 months when I actually went to yoga or Pilates EVERY day.

I manage to keep a routine life without late night sleep by forgoing clubbing. It really does help reduce my eye bag. Occasionally I do visit the dance floor just to have some fun.

Those were the days...goodbye party!

Well, this year I figured entering the New Year with a list of what I need to change is a real downer. Instead, I’m the stock of what I love and upgrade them (or actually pursue them).

I always love my friends, so I am going to keep in touch with friends not living in front of my face. So, do expect to see “Hi, just thought of you” in your inbox (hopefully soon – my lost phonebook is real turndown).

Other than that, I will learn to swim, cycle and pick up a dance. However, I do enjoy people’s reaction when they find out I can’t swim or cycle after living for 25 years. Be prepared with a lot of self-development.

I’ve an idea, I’ll show you the ropes challenge.

Located at the serene Botanical Garden in Shah Alam, Julien, the French monkey *ehem* Park Ranger, build this high rope course together with a few helping hands.

Monkey see, monkey do, (and swing along the trees). There are 5 monkeys (including me) and 1 videographer in the clip.

On average, the Big Thrill will take about 1 hour to complete but often the whole activity will take about 3 hours because people get jammed in the midst of completing the task.

For example, Mini Tarzan swing causes blockage because it requires more strength and the correct skill to move to the next canopy. Most of the time you’ll find yourself admiring the green forest while waiting for the task.

Book the earliest schedule to avoid dreadful waiting time.

There are lockers and recycle gloves provided. So, make sure you wear sports shoes and proper trekking attire. If you prefer new gloves, it is available for sale at RM5. You can also rent bottle strap to carry your drink while trekking up high in the sky.

All other gears are provided (harness, pulley, karabiner) and strictly no outside gears are allowed.

Before proceeding to the Big Thrill or Extreme Challenge, all Skytrekers has to go through simple elaborated training at 3-4 meters high on how to use ropes course gears.

No worries, even I did it twice. It shouldn’t be a problem for anyone else except those who are physically challenged or medically unfit.

What? Skytrex Adventure – Monkey see, monkey do, (and swing along the trees). A rope course in the sky makes you swing along the tree and lots of flying fox.

When? You’re ready to get out of the shopping mall. Open only on weekends (booking required). Available on weekdays if you have minimum 25 pax.

Recently, while out to have drinks with my friend, Violet. I turned away all the “Happy Valentine’s” dinner set menu laid on the table.

“Think I am spending it alone as all my close friends are coupled up,” I explained.

I expected her to nod, sympathetically and shunt those lovely cupids to the furthest corner of our table. Instead? She proposed to hook me up.

Violet, the founder of Lunch Actually, the largest dating agency in Asia offered all single men out there in KL to have a date with me!

Right then, in that moment, with the scent of roses in the air, my dear friend has solved my holiday’s plan.

Behind Closed Door - Carcosa Seri Negara

Known for its elegant chandelier, vintage grandfather clock and green lawn, the GHM runned hotel thrills the soon-to-be husband and wife as a wedding hotspot.

Carcosa Seri Negara

Carcosa – stylization of the Italian car cosa or ‘dear place’,

Seri Negara – means ‘beautiful country’

This 111 year old hotel was once home to the Malaya former British and Japanese rulers.

These 13 sophisticated yet rather faded suites cost about RM 1100 – RM 3500 per night per suite. *,* OUCH

However, this historical building is closed down for redevelopment on the last day of 2009. No concrete plan confirm at the time being but hopefully it won’t be demolished.

All hails, it’s halloween eve.

The one day of the year, it is socially acceptable to play dress up like a freak and act like a deviant.

Personally, I wanted to go out as myself, as I am pretty scary! But those props have been sitting in the closet ever since I bought it out from the store.

Just to make sure I bring it out before it ends up in the garage.

Moreover, Halloween last for only one night, I’ll make full use of it.

Tricks can turn into treats…not necessary tricks OR treats anymore. The game is on.

Where as putting on costume can be fun and the best part is to have others to role play with you.

Hopefully bunny will find the untalkative bunny friend tonight.

Now, the question is, who do you want to be?

Double weddings

Wedding could be pretty awkward for single girls as I attended two weddings in within 7 days, one for Chloe – my elder sister and Chris, and the other Mandy and Anddie – my elder brother.

“It’s time for the bouquet tossing, single ladies step ahead!"

“Go on, go,” they told me, as I was pushed to the centre of the empty floor – alone – anxious for the other singles to join me. I could hear my heart beating outside of my chest. I could see all the guests turn to look at me. Luckily there were 3 more single girls to join me. Phew.

The moment Chloe toss it, all the girls ran away! Leaving me alone with ShawnShawn (Cling’s son – my nephew). WTH?! Well, eventually. We decided to pass the bouquet to ShawnShawn, since he wanted it badly.

I never felt closer to true love or further away from it than I did last week. My elder sister married the man of the family. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen two people more happier and more suited for one another. They never seem to be tire of making each other happy.

On the Registration of Marriage morning, Chloe was late because we had too many things to take care of - hair, makeup, documents to bring and so on. Chris called and jokingly said, “Whoa~! If you’re not getting any faster, I won’t get to marry you!” He was anxiously waiting for our arrival at home.

As pleased as I am to go to weddings, attending them while single does leave you open to a certain degree of public humiliation. Those annoying friends and distant relatives conversations repeatedly goes something like this:

Relative: Any boyfriend?

kyanmay: No.

Relative: Whaaat? No boyfriend?! Are they crazy???

I just nodded my head and agreed, then she grabbed my chin and started waving my face to everyone.

Relative: Look, so beautiful. They crazy. CRAZY.

Well, of course. My next course of action was to pick up my bag and quickly move to another table far far away.

Now, back to Mandy + Anddie’s wedding. It was a simple yet warm lunch reception at dad’s house. All guests were close friends of the couple and relatives. A lot of catching up.

BFM 89.9 Business Radio Station Visit

WHAT? BFM stands for Business FM, not a conventional radio station, being the one and only independent business oriented radio broadcast in Malaysia.

BFM was launched last September by Malek Ali for the working force aged between 25 – 40 years old. More about the background on About BFM.

MUSIC? Looking at the target audience, the music played is along the line of Eric Clapton and The Beatles, adult-oriented rock genre, which is not covered by conventional radio station.

After midnight, it will be playing mostly Malay songs with no announcer.

WHERE? Currently, it is only broadcasted within Klang Valley and furthest to Malacca on FM 89.9. Reasoning, 42 % of the GDP is in Klang Valley.

HOW? If you’re not in Klang Valley…aww, don’t be upset, you can access to the content via their podcast if you’re not within the area or missed the program.

I love this podcast idea, you can listen to it anytime, anywhere with internet connection. No more missing out!

Well, together with Hanna and Nahda, and of course, our lovely lecturer, Miss Anita, we were welcomed by the Account Manager, Christopher as Annie, the producer has not arrive yet.

The people around were looking busy but still they hold up a smile when we pass by. The warm greeting were accompanied with a casual chat while waiting for Annie’s arrival at the pantry loaded with kuih raya .

Christopher told us his story of life before getting into BFM as a steward in MAS Airline and joined from flying on air to working on behind the scene broadcasting on air for FLY.fm and eventually landed in BFM. Ironically, MAS is one of their client now.

The working area is divided but yet semi transparent, a lot of interaction going on, no point blocking them.

Soon, Annie walked in and quickly she took out a slide folder and explain to us about BFM, how they come about, people behind it, and what do they want to achieve.

Working in BFM isn’t a walk in the park for Annie, everyone here has to wear a few different hats due to limited man power.

In other words, you learn a lot along the way as you can be the producer in the morning, switched to announcer after lunch and by evening, you’re editing – noise and volume level, the podcast to be uploaded online.

As an announcer, you need to know your interviewee and the background of the topic before the program starts. Usually, the ideal situation would be a month before and questions will be forwarded to the interviewee a week in advance.

But, I believe that spontaneity is the best because the public want to know the real truth, not PR scripted answers.

This is the ~~grilling pan~~ studio

WHEN?

The flagship program is The Breakfast Grille (6am to 10am). I’m thinking of chicken grilled with creamy mushroom sauce.

Opps, not that kind of grilling but metaphorically put the interviewee (usually top officials, CEO in a company) on a pan and grill the truth out.

Something like Hard Talk on BBC but this is done on locally, much easier for us to relate to.

To name some of the notable international corporate personalities that have been interviewed by BFM includes Sir Martin Sorrell and management authors such as Jack Trout, Al Ries and Robert Kiyosaki. Local corporate personalities interviewed include Tony Fernandes (CEO of AirAsia), Idris Jala (former CEO of Malaysia Airlines) and Johan Dennelind (CEO of Digi Telecommunications).

Annie strongly believe that any interview should be out to the public as it is, “We don’t edit the content.”

Yes, it has been a long day for him editing the sound, erasing noise and dealing with any sound related problem.

The ever empty sales department, which means, they’re out and about generating revenues for the station. Good!

As for advertisers, BFM sells sponsorship. They match air time with a campaign but the advertisers NEVER dictate the editorial.

They keep a very strict policy as “WE represent the listeners, they can’t stop us from asking questionable matters,” Annie enforced.

But there was once in history, a content was removed due to the company pleaded. It was an interview about the company treated the staff badly.

Over 600 comments were received on the podcast, deprived employees and raging listeners complained and give their opinions on it over the website.

BFM’s point is, the lesson is learned, make the best of it and work on a better future.

It was an interesting trip to the warm filled independent one and only business radio station. I’d love to join them for internship as being a host has always been my dream and I do enjoy ~~grilling~~ interviewing people. But my 0% knowledge on business is my set back. For you guys who are interested, they’re looking for radio presenter.

“Withdraw all the mainstream newspaper with only one national newspaper and run all community paper. After all, people wants to know what is happening around them and all the mainstream newspaper are writing on the same issues anyway,” says Teoh Teik Hoong. His vision on the future of the media industry.

“It’s not my paper, it’s the community’s paper. I’m just a typewriter” The former environmental journalist for The Star for 8 years states ‘Typewriter’ in his Facebook account. Humble as the new artist, this trained veteran journalist has travelled the world to countless number of conventions, saved three merbau trees worth RM60, 000, raised issues on Tasik Chini pollution, and lots more on serving as WWF spokesperson. But now, retracting from the big issues, Teoh zoom in to the grass root of mankind as a resident. He scrutinize every event in the neighborhood, from LRT proposed road to a boy breaking Guiness World Record to be published in community newspaper with 30, 000 copies monthly circulating Subang Jaya.

Everything about Subang Jaya concerns Teoh. “I’m the biggest ‘kepochi’ in this area.” For him to get news into the SJ Echo paper, he is often sighted at ‘mamak’ stores or some famous food stall around the corner chatting with the locals. Authorities are his resources for tip off too, from Hannah Yeoh to the inspector of Subang Jaya Police Station (03 5633 2222). He’d talk to all people from a 8 year-old child to 80 years-old veteran to know the latest update around.

Like most monthly newspaper, Teoh can’t afford to put all the articles up on the newspaper due to cost issues. Thus, the selection of news is very skeptical. Sometimes, he’d hear readers complain, “Teoh, the paper no Ummph la.” But Teoh would keep to his fundamental as a positive paper. The objective is not to complain and sensationalize the news, it is to build a better living environment. So if the problem addressed to the authorities has been solved, and most of the time quickly (within one week), ‘No point running the story.’ If the problem occurs, he’d forward it to the respective authorities (MPSJ/ Police/residents), fix it and once in a while, Teoh would publish the story to motivates the authorities for their hard work. Others, he’d run it on the Online SJ Echo.

The ‘Penang kia’ still remembers vividly the scene back in the younger days in ‘kampung’. If the smell the aroma of herbal soup travels to his nose from next door, he knows a bowl is fetching itself over accompanied with a warm smile of the neighbor.

A self proclaimed ‘shopaholic’ who can’t stop buying from the street stalls or random shop around the neighborhood. Food especially, he would be delighted to share it with the neighbors. The ideal community is to have everyone knows each other and share their life together. Thus, this paper is a platform for the residents to get to know each other.

When asked about time management, Teoh smirks then responded with a upbeat tone, “I normally sleeps at 6am and wakes up at 8am to get ready for events at 9am.” Despite the lack of sleep, he still look fresh as ever.

Surprisingly, it turns out Teoh has a strict rule on the subject of politics in the community paper. Unlike the mainstream newspaper, he never allow any element of political interest to be published. Only during the national election days to serves the community’s interest. Other than that, No means NO. Though Hannah Yeoh, Subang Jaya assemblyman, contributes her thoughts in it but Teoh would screen and take off any political hinges in it. The line is drawn very clear.

Two years ago, Teoh took up this challenge to run a community paper with absolutely no financial backing. “I think I’m crazy, I should do it,” his thoughts after two months thinking over the challenge. Today, the paper is still growing under his one-man-show (Teoh, the copywriter, the kepochi, the newspaper delivery man, and the ad sales marketing executive), people rush for the paper whenever it is out – high demand, and it is the only community paper in Klang Valley.

I’m in!

I participated in Miss World Malaysia 2005 and didn’t not win any prizes but I won a friend, an inspiring and supportive friend. This year I’m back to compete again. Well, of course…a whole new approach. I just read an article from Keep Moving Forward on 5 ways to win in life and I’m in between “You win by winning” and “You win by being liked.” I won’t quit and constantly finding ways to achieve my goals but at the same time being liked by people using my interpersonal communication skills.

Well, fingers crossed. I’ll do my best to shine and looking forward to meet my contestants.

“We definitely have an interesting bunch this year. They’re all very determined to win. We’ve got a group of girls who are pageant pros ... they’ve participated in pageants several times before but have not won. They’re confident that they’ve learnt from the past and are going to do better. Then we have girls who are totally not into the whole model lifestyle and are in it for the experience, of course hoping to win. And then there are girls who ... well, who will definitely make for interesting viewing. The vibe is really different this year. In the past, the contestants were relaxed and became quite close friends with each other. This year, they’re all extremely competitive and are already plotting to win the title. It will be interesting to watch,” says Chong.

Tweeps around KL, all twit~!

Last night, Kuala Lumpur was one among the 200-odd cities around the world where Twitter users gathered this weekend for a cause.

For the first time, almost 200 Twitterers/ Tweeps/ Tweeples came together making it the biggest tweet up (Twitter meet up). Finally, we get to see the faces behind the names we have been following and socialize (face to face – involves talking and body language, no keyboard or screen), eat yummy food and donate money to Destiny Starting Point, Klang.

Mingling and endless conversation going on and their thoughts were not limited to just 140 characters. Twestival started as a Twitter-based meet-up but has grown into an event that benefits local charities all around the world from September 10 -13.

Attendees registered with RM 40 donation at the door (prebook - RM30) and began feasting on Cupcake Chic (@thecupcakechic) , 1901 Hotdogs (@1901hotdogs) , New Zealand Ice Cream (@nznMY) and more amidst sipping beers sponsored by Tiger – Guiness Anchor Berhad.

Beginning around 8pm, the fun at The Mist, Bangsar (@mistclubbangsar) kicks off with Will Quah (@willsquah) spicing up the Tweeps. Entertainment by Inversion Crew hip hop dance performance and DJ Twilight Action Girl. Later, Will Quah partnered with Elaine Daly (@elainedaly) to push the auction bids higher and higher and SOLD! TwestivalKL is supporting Destiny Starting Point, a Klang-based charity home that take in young boys who dropped out of school to prevent them from getting involved in gangterism. “We help the young boys to find their purpose in life and help them to achieve it,” says Pastor Stephan Samuel of Destiny Starting Point. “We decided to partner with TwestivalKL because we need help to sustain the home as it is hard for us to raise fund due to the stigma and problem of the boys being a delinquent.”

More than 20 local sponsors, including Digi Broadband that stepped up to donate two desktops and a year supply of Digi Broadband access to the home, which fulfilled the organiser’s initial fundraising objective, allowing the full cash proceeds from the event go towards the home’s other needs.

At the end of the night, the amount adds up to RM 9000 plus and the organisers asked every Tweeps to give in all the small change in their pocket to bring the figure up to RM 10 000. Within minutes, #twestivalKL thread showed “I hear 10K has been breached!” by @zeffri. Well, a mundane “What are you doing?” question can be leveraged to achieve noble objectives too.

The not very lucky @kyanmay didn't have a chance on lucky draw nor auction because I put the goodie bag and ticket in the car before the event starts and I don’t remember my LUCKY NO. How about auction? The Kiehl’s hamper I wanted starts bidding at RM 150 and I had only RM 150 in my pocket. Yeah, better luck next time - February 2010, another TwestivalKL. Due to my recent healthy lifestyle, I started drinking water more than ever and I discovered…

These days, ordering water in a restaurant can be as complicated as ordering a five-course meal. Why?

Mineral or spring?
Still or sparkling?

I just go like…’Err, just get me a room temperature drinking water, thanks.’ Gosh, how many choice more are they. And not all places serves Evian anymore because of the conspiracy.

I just want a simple life

After watching Up movie last night, it was so touching and meaningful. I cried like a baby, the Charlotte side of me prays for a simple fairytale happily-ever-after life.

Then I thought of some everyday romantic moments that make me smile…

Seeing an elderly couple holding hands. (The beginning of Up movie is really moderate and simple, which is the hardest to achieve)
Watching a young dad with his kids and thinking that will be my boyfriend (still looking) and I one day.
Hearing that my lucky-in-love sister has gone and got engaged.
After a breakup, being able to look at a couple in love without bursting into tears.
Hearing a song on the radio I want played at my wedding – Jason Mraz Lucky
Seeing my couple friends sneak a hug (awww, look at them…so sweet – kyanmay looking at joyce + q)
Giving his name as an emergency contact. For me, my sister is still unluckily involved.
Overhearing him say “we” when making plans with friends or “our home”. *smack! it’s the past, MOVE ON~!*
Watching corny reality shows like Love, perhaps? – gosh, those were the days.

But yet, I find myself complicating things unnecessarily at times. All those testing the water act which I kinda think it is stupid. If I’m clueless, just go ahead and ask. No point beating around the bushes, and end up beating myself. *OUCH, bump on the forehead*

New resolution: I shall KISS – Keep it sweet + simple.

Are we really on swine flu alert?

Have you experience any change of lifestyle after the H1N1 breakout? Do you get worried when someone else sneezed openly beside you on the train? What would you do if you catch a cold during this pandemic period?

When H1N1 started to spread around the world a few months ago, Malaysian are still at this funny mind state where pandemic will not spread into Malaysia. We are pretty good at blocking out the negative thoughts in our head. Remember those were the days, KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) was flooded with people ordering their famous Spicy Chicken during the SARS outbreak. However, travel is by far the biggest contributor to the spread of a worldwide pandemic.

This is a rather bad time for a trip. My advise to you is to stay at home with your PlayStation or your Wii if you’ve been slotted for vacation time. Air Asia will have another big sale soon, no worries for the air ticket burned. While KLIA/LCCT is one of the busiest entry point to Malaysia should be taken extra prevention steps from the virus entering our country which I don’t see when I got back from Korea a month ago. Compared to the check point entering Seoul, passengers are checked one by one. In KLIA, I was just joyfully walking through the crowded check point passing in a H1N1 prevention form and they return me Health Alert Card to present to doctor if I experience any of the symptoms. . No thorough checking. No asking. No extra prevention.

In the busy city of Kuala Lumpur, are the patrons of crowded places doing any prevention step?

Let’s see.

Schools? Wow, 3.6 mil to spend on thermometers, face masks and liquid sanitisers distributed to all schools. So far, I’ve heard 3 schools closed down for a week when found student might be potential swine flu carrier.

Cinema? I used to visit the cinema twice a week. Now, not anymore because I’d be trapped in a closed area for at least 90 minutes of potential exposure H1N1. If only one person is infected in the cinema, that’s it! No prevention actions taken at all at the major cinemas like GSC and TGV.

Clubbing? As a student, I study hard and play as hard too. I used to bar/club hop 10 places a night but now there is only one place in the whole of Klang Valley that I would visit for a little dance - Zouk. The only place that has temperature screening for each clubber before they can enter the indoor area. Qualified healthy clubbers will be stamped with a sticker to make sure others feel safe hanging out around you.

At least 20 to 30 per cent of the Malaysian population are expected to be infected with influenza A (H1N1).

A store that sells husbands has just opened in New York City, where a woman may go to choose a husband.
Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates. You may visit the store ONLY ONCE!
There are six floors and the attributes of the men increase as the shopper ascends the flights.
There is, however, a catch. ... You may choose any man from a particular floor, or you may choose to go up a floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!
So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband.

On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

True, most woman can settle with what they have but out of curiosity, some might venture out to find more. The “What If…?” Well, we all know what curiosity did to Whiskers - (RIP).

I took this test in my head while reading it. As a simple minded person, I stopped at 2nd floor. For me, having a man who has stable income, moral values and shares a kid with me is good enough. What else do I ask for? Proceeding to read 3rd floor, well… cased closed. I don’t want an extremely good looking husband. Being in competition with other women is not my forte. Looks can always be altered, advantage of being in the fashion industry. I can leave the Husband Shop gracefully holding on to my husband’s hand forever.

Floor 3 are above are hard to believe and happens only in extreme cases or movies. Men, we’re not really that hard to please…you just need to let down your ego and be more sensitive to your surroundings.

In need of a good luck charm

Today is one of the unfortunate days in life and hopefully this won’t be a continuous series. It has been bad enough until 11.30 pm on 30/07/09.

First off, in the midst of yawning and holding a very heavy back pack, my hand phone fell off my lap as I got out of the car. *I suspect*

It is still all good when I realize it. After all, the phone is in very bad condition and needed to be change. The only reason I am still keeping it is sentimental values for my personal belonging which has been on my side for the past 1 1/2 years. So, I was just waiting for its days to end.

Without much whining, I continue to my work. As I joyfully skip out of the office after a long tiring day, I bang my head onto the ceiling. No, it’s not what you think! *I wasn’t wearing heels* For a good 15 seconds, I was screaming in silence with my knees on the floor and hands on top on my skull. OUCH~! I can still feel the lump now.

Fine. Wishing I could go home and stay away from all hazardous environment. I got back to my car at the best traffic jam hour, 5.30 pm. *Contemplating* Shall I just drive home straight in the midst of massive traffic jam or shall I stay put here in town?

Well, I decided to go for a movie alone. I can skip the traffic and stay away from accident. What are the chances of getting hurt in a cinema where I sit down peacefully through the traffic jam hours.

In my mind, I was thinking:

WHAT?! One showing only at midnight and the other has only front rows. FINE! I told the ticketing counter to get me any English movie starting soon with a decent seat for one, preferably no one AROUND, thank you. Yeay, he was very nice to get me separated from everyone =D

Once I got into the cinema, oh…I’m watching Ghost of Girlfriends Past by Matthew McConaughey. NO GOOD~! Chick flick movie never fails to make my cry. And tears doesn’t really compliment my smoky eyes makeup. FINE~! I can live with smear makeup. I sit down and watch the movie with an open mind.

The movie is about Matt (Connor), a player who believes love makes a person weak, dependent and fat. He is visited by the ghosts of his former jilted girlfriends, who take him on a revealing and hilarious odyssey through his failed relationships. Well, I was wrong. I could get hurt in the cinema. Mentally hurt. Connor points out the one thing I fear and happened to my previous relationship. I’m afraid of being hurt, therefore I escape before I could get hurt.

Sad and stupid it might sound but I do have the tendency to sabotage/breakup my relationship previously. I live in my own fairytale land where I believe one day, I’ll find ‘the one’ who never gives up on me, appreciates my effort for the relationship and most importantly, loves me. And like wise, I’ll do the same to him.

Naive, I know. But, I have faith.

Two pieces of tissues soaked with my tears after 1 1/2 hours. Expressionless, I just walked aimlessly around town for an hour. Confused, shaken and lost. Then, I remembered. Someone might be looking for me. Quickly, I hurried home and switch on my computer. There it is. I am here and back.

Laneige Bridal Workshop

Still in the Korea hype, we went to Laneige Bridal Workshop on 25 July from 10 am – 4pm just to find out how the Koreans get hitched.

At the registration, I was greeted by Mingle from Blu Inc with a huge goodie bag containing lots of sample size Laneige products for men and women, and bridal magazines. The itinerary was korean cooking class, lunch, Korean marriage tradition, Tres Beau Momento - the wedding planner talk on preparation before marriage and lastly grooming by Laneige.

We got to do hands on practice for preparing hand roll and kimchi. Due to our humid weather, the kimchi is ready in within 3 days. And I successfully cut the handroll into pieces without crushing it after Renee rolled it together with pickles, egg, spinach and sausages.

According to the coordinator at Korea Plaza, in the modern Korean couple culture, the groom will buy a house and the bride will supply all the electrical appliances in the house. Hehm, if you ask me the Malaysian culture is too complicated coz we have too many ethnicity, all mixed up.

I didn’t pay much attention on the wedding planner talk as I couldn’t stand the winter-like air conditioning anymore.

Laneige skincare session is pretty interesting where they teaches how to take care of the skin 6 months before the big day with proper skin care regime (makeup remover – cleanser – toner – essence – serum – moisturiser – eye care), and weekly maintenance (hydrating mask, scrub and deep cleansing mask). Too bad, it was just briefly mentioned. Main focus is on the makeup but it wasn’t that great because from my experience, Korean girls on the street hardly put on makeup. The only thing is BB Cream, which is easily found in any drugstore and any korea brand cosmetics. Every time we enter a cosmetic shop and ask for ‘Korea No.1?’, the sales person will point us to the BB Cream shelf.

Slimming plan – Week 2

TWO weeks into my slimming efforts and things are hanging by the thread over on the up side.

I’m feeling healthier, fitter – and definitely thinner – and the plan seems to be getting easier to follow by the day (at least I try to think of it in such a way).

I’ve found various guilt-free food to eat out, such as nicoise salad, rocket salad, Caesar salad with less dressing, and the beauty of this is that I can eat as much of them as I want.

As I’ve stocked my fridge up with grapes, kiwi, strawberries and bananas I’m rarely hungry and my cravings are starting to diminish – though the one thing that’s driving me to distraction is the look of the tiramisu as I walk down Jalan Telawi passing by Alexis.

Normally it wouldn’t even occur to me to want a slice of rum soaked fingers with mascarpone cheese, but now it’s forbidden fruit it seems like the ultimate treat to my sweet-starved tastebuds.

The other thing that’s proving hard to stick to is my chocolate allowance. The one thing I can’t live without is my Godiva praline. I chain-eat – whenever one box is finished I still have like 5 boxes piled in my fridge.

This doesn’t fit in very well with having to stick to about 8 pieces of praline a day.

But despite my mind playing tricks on me and taunting me with char kuey teow, bbq fried chicken, char siew and banofee pie – as well as piled up golden boxes of Godiva – I’ve been a good girl and pretty much stuck to the plan (well, i slacked a bit but I controlled myself by just taste eating – not more than 2 bites)

To prove it – and to help with my willpower – I’m writing down every morsel that passes my lips on a child-like diet sheet that encourages me to give myself a smiley or a sad face at the end each day (Shin Chan style, sticker ‘budak baik’ and ‘sticker ‘budak jahat’). Last 2 days wasn’t very impressive because I was exposed to many temptations.

The devil in me wants to have a night on the tiles and then draw a face with a massive grin, downing a bottle of wine, and so far I’m getting nearer. That’s why I‘m writing this down to make myself aware of it.

The main thing keeping me going is the fact that I’ve lost 2kg already which proves the plan works and as I publish this, I am hoping for another 2kg at the next weigh-in.

So for now I’m wolfing piles of fruit, tossing rocket salad and mixing meal replacement powder with ice cold water, in the hope of squeezing into those size 8 jeans in two weeks time.

Yeah, I think I saw it too.

OMG~! Literally, WTH~! It was 4am on Jalan Cheras, there I spotted a man lying on the middle of the road. Of all the emergency numbers I saved on my phonebook, I panicky asked my friend, ‘Is the emergency line 999?' I parked my car further in front and made the call while my friend is looking out if he has any movement.

After two rings,

Operator: Selamat pagi, encik. Boleh saya bantu?

kyanmay: Kak, saya berada di hadapan PGRM, Cheras. Jejantas selepas Jaya Jusco, Maluri. Saya nampak seorang lelaki terbaring di tanah, accident motorcycle. *still in panic mode*

Operator: Apakah nama encik?

kyanmay: Leong Kuan May. Kak, dia baring kat sana, tak gerak!

Operator: Ok, no telefon encik, 012 XXX XXXX, ke?

kyanmay: Ya, ya…

Well, luckily within the next 5 minutes. Passerby stop and help carry him up. We left soon after we saw him walking by himself and some other people were looking after him. We did our part as a concerned civilian to alert the authorities.

Is there a lot of people out there who has nothing to do and casually call into the emergency line just for fun? Thus, it results to such strict protocol for them to be sure this is not a prank call before they proceed to make further steps.

I don’t blame the emergency line because I do understand there are a lot of motorcycle accidents happening every hour and it might be just a false alarm but I do think they should refine the system to make it work more efficient.

What if there is a real serious emergency, every second is fatal.

Follow up from my previous post on Green is the new Black. Well, my bottle didn’t work out. Mainly because I often forget opening the cap every 3 days to release the gas. I totally forgot about it after the first month and my mum threw it away before it explodes. =S

Running errands

One fine day, we just decided to spend the whole day together doing our errands. At 10am, Chia Min sent her car to the workshop with Renee and join me for lunch. Bijou, Mount Kiara is closed every Monday so the nearest tempting choice is Wendy’s burger. My first time although it has been in town for a while. Just never really got to it, cause I’m a big fan of McDonald’s.

Chia Min got excited over triple layer beef + cheese burger.

Then, I tried to squeeze it into my mouth too.

Chia Min: Hah, i bet you can’t eat it like I do. *evil laugh*

Well, since they have two huge menu solely on salads, I thought of giving it a try but, not good at all! The vege tastes bitter.

Moving on, we got Chia Min to a salon for a hair cut. Since she don’t like us calling her “Bay Yong Jian”, the Korean Faceshop spokesperson.

TADA~! Nice hair cut, glad that she like how Ken from Hairquarters, Solaris design her new look. But, the fringe is a little too long, covering eyes, not good for ‘lilo’.

By 3pm, I finally bring myself to drop by the agency for updates. I have been missing for a while.

I guess we are just trying to de-hair Chia Min the whole day. First hair cut, then eye brow shaping at Shu Uemura (RM 30). We wanted to bring her to Magdeline for Brazilian waxing too, but we had an appointment with Monster VS Aliens 3D.

We got excited playing with the accessories at Forever 21, a shop that I can never buy anything from because too many to choose from.

Monsters VS Aliens is a really good show. Well, I guess it depends on who you are watching it with. =P The 3D effect is awesome, I kinda tried to hide when the ball hit me from the screen.

Weird: Both Chia Min and I fell asleep and woke up at the same time during the movie. We missed them fighting with robot at the beginning of the show. Most likely because of our motion sickness.

The daily ritual was held at Sid’s Bar. Tonight, a weird couple keep on staring towards our direction, the guy especially, literally the whole night. To the extent, we felt uneasy. We figured that weird couple were trying to pick up a girl to join them for threes*me.

Although it seems like an ordinary day out together but thanks for spending time with me, it means a lot. You are both funny, Chipped Tooth B*tch + Ms Plum Flower Name. *stop fighting*

Well, I finally came out with a solution to fix my car with masking tape!

Yeah, I almost mummified my door.Entering from the passenger side, I drove out to look for any car workshop as near as possible. Though the masking tape feels secured but I don’t wanna risk it. Fortunately, I saw some spare parts shop in Seapark and got the spare handle for RM 8 then head to the nearest workshop to get them fix. Total spent: RM 30

Well, nice work! If I were to call a tow car, the service itself will easily cost me RM 70. Yeay, extra money to beer + drinks bank! God will always leave the window open even if He closes the door.

May – my month

Five – 5 has always been my favorite number but lately those things that I thought will be my lucky chance with the label 5 turns out to be very disappointing.

Today, the 25th.

My car door handle broke when I was heading to class. Well, I had to hold on to the car handle and drive slow so that I won’t get flung out of the car. The problem now is I’m thinking of how and where can I fix it without alerting my family. I’ve given enough problem lately, don’t think it is the best time for me to voice out any imperfections.

I had the almost perfect relationship (at least I thought so) but I ruined it by complaining over small matters which doesn’t really matter. I guess this teaches me a lesson on how to handle relationships better in the future.

My best friend just lost someone really close to her, forever.

But still, there is something to celebrate about in my month. The toughest time, weird too (haven’t experience it in 2 years), my friends are around to support me. Thanks, guys!

Every morning I wake up telling myself to appreciate the people and things around me more. I can’t afford to lose anyone, anymore.

Lesson learned: never again to say irresponsible words. There is not turning back! Now, I should learn how to love myself and think of a way to fix my car handle.

A little intense at first cause we cannot find the right lighting. It is Vodka’s first try on moody lighting.

And later, I had to climb on the stairs too. Not too high…I’m clumsy, so, tendency to fall is pretty high. Plus, I don’t have insurance!

Last Minute Costume Party on Eddy’s 30th Birthday

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who plan their costumes for weeks and those who panic and wear a lampshade at the last minute.

Obviously, I am the last minute kind. Like the Martha Stewart of Halloween, make a last-minute costume out of stuff I already have.

What I need: red, green, yellow, white, orange, and blue articles of clothing.
Who I am: Rubik’s Cube.

What I need: regular clothes, badge.
Who I am: undercover cop.

What I need: all-white outfit with white cloth over it and red “No entry” sign.
Who I am: Casper, the friendly neighbor ghost.

What I need: Jeff’s black king sized bed sheet.
Who I am: Dementor, Harry Potter.

After much struggling with my wardrobe, I manage to pull out a Hello Kitty look matching my partner in crime, Renee who is going as cross dressed Mickey Mouse. It’s a cat-and-mouse thing.

Arriving at the 3rd floor of Prince Hotel, two elegantly dressed woman gave us a weird stare. Then, we saw the ballroom were a sit down formal dinner. WTH?! *PANIC*

Thinking this would be a prank of the year yet!

Luckily, it wasn’t a prank. The room for the party is further down. Phew~!

Birthday boy! Such a sweet birthday surprise, his brother and sister from abroad dressed up as Wolverine and Sylar and made a video for him.

Growing up in a chinese family, Genting Highland is a hot spot for holidays. Well, those were the days my sister would bring me around play with rocking pirate machines or merry-go-round. Then, the high speed and impact bumper car.

During the teenage years, friends would go all the way just to enjoy coffee in cool weather. Now?

Fly~!!!

Well, it is a sky diving simulator…I never thought I’d play with it coz I don’t see a point of being blown by a huge air ventilator. But after trying it… RM 50 (hotel guest)/ RM 80 (normal) is totally worth it! For the first time in life, I AM FLYING, for real!

Tips: Keep your mouth shut at all times when you’re in the vent. =D

One day of the year, all workers get celebrated…Well, students with part time job like me also tumpang holiday.

Yeay, cheers for those who worked hard throughout the year!!!Fireworks display for about 10 mins starting 11.45pm 30/4/09 at the open carpark in front of Maxims and Highland Hotel.

Of course, the highlight of this trip was the Dreamz, the only show on earth which brings white lion, white tiger and white cub.

The very playful white cub Well, it is not the first time I watch this show but I still find it amusing.

Aerous – the white lion licked on my hand. Yup, I’m very lucky. David, the trainer was there feeding him and I was playfully hitting its paw. Obviously, my hand is more appealing than the red meat. =P

Not much pictures on the second day cause I fell sick. Constance and Daniel had to carry me to the car. Sigh…next time maybe.

For some people the Valentine’s are about flowers, candlelight dinners, and presents. For others the 14 Feb is a celebration of freedom. The home is empty, and everyone else is busy lovey dovey with the other-half. What better time to skip town?

I decided to have an adventure with Kenny.

Hide away amid the cobblestones and beaches in lovely Phuket, Thailand. Well, despite Patong Town.

The island has fabulous beaches, galleries, great hawker food and a cross-section of culture influences: transvestite? Every five stores, there is a repetition of convenience store, tailor, and reflexology.

In the younger days, birthdays were all about balloons, hats, cake, ice cream, games, presents, and goodie bags. And it was good.

Then, as the years passed, people started to give cards with mean jokes about “saggy face” and “senior moments.” That is not so good.

And the first who always gets it among my close friends is no other than Wen Wey.

We celebrated another candle on the cake gracefully. Starting with with dinner at Delicious @ Dua Residency, updating each other with juiciest gossips. Then we moved to River Wine @ Pavilion to meet up with Renee, who couldn’t join us for dinner. Never knew this place existed, next to Jaguar showroom. Small area with about 5 tables, good for quiet night with friends. Moving on to 4Play @ Phuture for more fun. Candid. Caught by Chia Min.After a few glasses of champagne, I was pretty much hammered.

Pretty awesome. I got my friends. I got champagne. I got some new friends. And I got my song at the end of the night.

No worries, we have not touch the senior moments yet. And thanks to Botox, we need not worry about the saggy face. Not that bad huh, Wen Wey? Happy Birthday!

Music has been a big part of my life, my MP3 player is a must have in my bag and the stereo is always on whenever I am home…not an audiophile yet though.

I guess it is linked to my exercise…sometimes I would just blast the music and dance to sweat in closed doors or dance walking on the street.

The other day, walking around Orchard…I heard some really nice song and I followed the music to this store called That CD Shop @ Pacific Plaza. Strange but every single tracks I tested seems to relate to the songs I have always been looking for. I always love Chinese old songs but I have no idea what the title was, not to mention where to find it. That place is like a lost and found music heaven where I met a lot of nostalgic songs.

Especially the compilation by Herry – the owner of That CD Shop, called High Society. Don’t get me wrong, it is not the about the rich and famous or the music that is only for the privileged. In fact, you can get it from SGD 39.90 and up from That CD Shop.

Hands down but Herry has got a good taste for music and all sorts of music genres . From well known and not-so-well-known songs spanning across different genres including jazz, pop, disco, classical in different languages such as English , Mandarin, French and Spanish. We started the night with a feast at Shook and of course, partner in crime includes Dom, Riesling, watermelon martini, and margarita.

I’ve been thinking all day…something I have to do but I just can’t figure out what. After a very long day out and about, I got home at about 11ish. As usual, I talk to Renee to conclude my day and she finally cracked the ‘soalan cebu emas’! It is Daniel’s birthday.

Well, trying to be the last one to wish him on his birthday before the clock strikes 12am to 24th Dec 2008.

The next day, I spend my Christmas Eve dinner to make up for my forgetfulness @ LaFite, Shang.

We were speculating that our table is the only one without alcohol. I need to detox!

But my detox plan failed when they serve dessert. Nostalgia, cotton candy on a tree? SWEET! And my first time trying on chilli chocolate, new discovery for a chocoholic.

We were the last to leave the restaurant as he was busy decorating the candles. Happy belated birthday!

We all know the popular stereotype of the artist: gaunt, disheveled, maybe missing an ear, and with a manic gleam in his hungry eyes.

I had the same feeling when I met Witold Flak at The Shanghai Knights @ Shook.

But, despite all the stereotypes. I took the opportunity to shoot with him the next day at the Executive Lounge @ Westin.

He travels with at least four cameras. One antique, one film SLR, one digital SLR for backup and one manual Leica when he walks around. Cool!

It has been long since the last time I saw anyone using films.This is antique. Look from the top, click on the front steel round button and roll! Due to lack of props, we used his black coat and hang it behind me as background. I havta wear his XXL shirt and almost got caught for lighting up the ciggie in the room. After struggling with limited gadgets and impromptu shootings for 5 hours, we decided to give ourselves treats @ Haagen Daz down the road. While walking over, he is always watching at people around. Looking for expressions to shoot. The results are candid portraits devoid of artifice. No stupid fake smiles, manufactured poses, unsightly turtle chins, or deliberate crotch shots.

Fashion event of the year at the stroke of midnight? I was wondering in my mind what event is this. It is the wedding of Valiram Group’s youngest, Mukesh Valiram weds Roshan Budhrani.

The wedding was held for 5 days in 5 different hotels, luxuriously. I’m honored to attend such spectacular wedding for 2 nights – Devil Wears Prada @ Ritz and Shanghai Knights @ Shook.

Devil Wears Prada

We arrived at the registration, given a role to play before we get into the hall. I gotta sing Madonna “Like A Virgin” together with Em. Arriving at the entrance, a signage says “Audition”. Huh??? Another clueless girl just doing whatever the people say, go with the flow. Pretty fun though. Serena chopped Em with “Sexy Siren” because she really pulled it off. I was busy capturing the classic moment (video can be found in my Facebook – Video). The emcee started it only at 2am, by that time I was already worn out and yawning away. The introduction was showing the couple LIVE from the hotel room as the gimmick, reality show like where the couple were too tired after a whole long day. I heard the fashion was at 3am and the guest left at about 4.30am. First time ever I attended a wedding that last all night long, although I left soon after they showed the video but still…cool~!

Shanghai Knights

Guest arrives about 9pm but it started about 10.30pm. A lot of them were relatives all the way from Bombay, India.

Running for the event of the year? No doubt, this wedding is a landslide victory.

Stylo X @ KL Plaza

Arriving at the entrance of KL Plaza, with just a touch of red with my lips and a necklace from the LG Party, to compliment the dress code, Stylo X: Sexy in Red. The guest are ranging from high profile socialites to designers.

Walking up to the venue, the place were covered with red cloth all over and guest has to walk through an exhibition hall before you reach the main hall where the dance floor, sexy couches and free flows are.

KL Plaza is under going revamp which is just the perfect venue for this party’s theme, rundown graffiti warehouse. The walls were sprayed with stylish devil design.

In this picture, the purplish skirt is made out of condoms! In conjunction with the World AIDS day. Kong snapped a few pictures of my friends and I on the red carpet. Ken Yeoh, my “not gay” friend, pretty much drunk.

A rainy night, but people are still lining up just to get into Zouk. The queue for guest list was ridiculously long until the entrance on the main road. Those with invites just went on swiftly.

A pretty interesting night for the long awaited new, revamped Zouk. Now I can have all different music within one night, one place. As a RnB die hard fan, my loyalty belongs to [4Play] by DJ Goldfish on Thursdays.

The downside: space is very limited and the ceiling is too low for most of the area except dance floor. Feels claustrophobic at times.

Guys, need some help here. I’m contemplating whether to get the Sony T-77 or Canon Ixus 870is camera.

Last Sunday was the first party, a series of get together by Tongue in Chic and LG Secret @ Palate Palate, Bukit Ceylon.

Different from the commercialized events where guest are entertained by MC, performances and contests. This series of party is more like a lifestyle chill out session. No speeches, no mascots running around, and no stuck up celebrities trying to be seen. Just chill~!

Free flow cocktails, Shanghai Hennessy and forgot name, but taste like Mojitos. Finger food served too for hungry people like me. Loves the mussels. Yummie!

Through out the event, they are a few girls walking around with the Secret phone for whoever interested in experiencing the real phone.

Since it is a themed party, guest are dressed in Edie Sedgewick style (think of mini dressed over black leggings topped with chandelier earrings). Edie is Andy Warhol’s superstar, thus pop art photography is one of the highlights too.

Sit back, face the lights and snap. Voila~!

There are also boards around the upstairs for guest to draw on. Rene drew a ‘orang lidi’, Eddy hang it up, becomes Hang Man and drew “E Man”.

M-Circle Club Launch

The new club, tucked inside Starhill, KL downtown, is meant to feel like a luxe high up hangout. Mood lighting, velvet sofas, and mirrors dance floor decorate the posh place along with art lighting installations and seven dragons all around it.

An on-site bartender ensure top-class cocktails. Bottle service is available at the tables and includes the house signature: hot baby hot and cold baby cold tequilas. Still hungry? Small bites courtesy of chic eatery Lecka Lecka Restaurant downstairs are also served until late.

As for that circular motif, it’s elegant yet understated, from the club’s architecture around the entrance of Starhill facing Pavilion on 2nd (Explore) floor design, (perfect for runways) to velvety half rounded sofas. We were briefed to bring beauty products to this interview.

When we put out all our stuff for pictures. I had a mixture of everything. Kelly brought all her own company’s skincare. Kamen shocked us with only 3 products (makeup remover, cleanser and toner). Well, she is blessed with beautiful skin. All these while she has not been using any more product than cleanser. After joining this pageant, she added a makeup remover to her regime. I envy her!

No matter what products you put on your face, the main factor is to get enough sleep and lots of water. *gulp* I just finished 2 glasses of warm water…what about you?

Prawn Search, ended up with Goat

I've never been a big fan of cooking shows. Consequently, my grasp of cooking world is a little hazy. All I know is to order and eat.

For help, I turn to mum =D

We headed to Chow Kit Pasar to get some cheap and fresh prawns. The experience was quite clumsy because I wore a slippery pair of sandals *doink*

Unfortunately, all the bigger prawns were gone by the time we got there, about 1.30pm. I searched the whole wet market but could only find a handful of leftover sea prawns. =(

On the bright side, mum got a huge papaya for only RM 4.00.
Do you know how to pick a nice papaya?
Look for those which is FAT and curvy.

And she 'ta pao' her favourite sup kambing. Located just outside Chow Kit wet market beside a textile shop with yellow sign board name "Sutra Rashidah". Same row with the Fire Station. A huge bowl of sup kambing is just for RM 3 - 4. Opens at noon until midnight.

Well, looks like I have to eat out for dinner. My bad, I promised to cook something. Heading out to M Circle Opening @ Starhill, KL. It used to be Tiffin Bay, a cafe but Mike turn it into a club. Yeay, a new place to hang out at night!

Hour 0815

Awaken by the ache in the abdomen. I quickly hurried to the toilet. Before I knew it, I was vomiting and my throats sore due to highly acidic liquid coming from my stomach.

About 15 minutes later, there was nothing left in my body to be extracted. My hands and feet were so weak I can hardly walk back to my room. So, I stumbled onto the nearest comfortable zone, the sofa in the living room.

There I was freezing in cold, consumed by the intestinal disorder. With all my last strength and breath, I yelled for my mum. Waked by panic, she hurried to me and ask what is wrong. The last thing I remember was looking at her while she rubbed her eyes open. Then, I collapsed.

In my dreams, I was looking for answer for all this physical suffering. I traced back my food consumption yesterday. The last thing I ate was a chocolate cake at Delicious with Wai-Sum.

Hour 1300

Covered with a blanket and positioned comfortably on my sofa, I was back from my dreams and still pretty blur. My voice echoed after me and no reply. I am home alone.

To clarified my question in my dreams, I reached for my phone and called Wai-Sum. Du du...du du...du du... This cannot be happening! My phone is barred due to excessive usage. Gosh, what a day. My only connection to the world is through the internet but none is online.

Looking at my schedule, I can't just stay here and starve till someone comes home. Thus, I decided to write it here and whoever sees this...Please call me to ask if I need help. Fingers crossed on my on foot expedition today as I can't locate my car keys again.

My destinations for the day would be at Jalan Petaling, KL to fix my dress, Times Square to return Biggie's stylus, and last Midvalley to buy makeup remover.

Before bed habits

Go shopping whenever I get my pay cheque. Eating high sugar desserts. Talking during a movie.

I have lots of habits. One of them is logging onto Facebook/Email before I go to bed.

I always thought that social networking sites are the culprits of networking that will put people in dilemmas. There was a point of time I stop logging into all these networking stuff for 1.5 years. But, ...why would I turn down all my friends to keep in touch with me just because of just a small problem. I had the same feeling last night, deleting my account.

I stayed up all night thinking of the same matter over and over again. It didn't resolve until the sun shine into my room in the morning and I realize it is enough. For the first time in my life, I choose to continue doing something I don't like, WAIT. The usual me would say goodbye, CIAO!

I have faith, I know it is worth the wait. Good things will come for those who wait.

Nuyou 15th Anniversary Fashion Concert @ ChinWoo Stadium

Dance party meets rock concert meets fashion show.

Nuyou celebrates 15th Anniverysary on 31.10.2008 with performances to fashion shows by Eric Chaw, Z Chen, Eric Lim and Landy Wen.

Of course, the designers ranging from Daniel Chong, Khoon Hooi, Jonathan Cheng, Lester Wong, Melinda Looi, Michael Ong, Scott Chu, Sonny San, Venie Tee and Villiam Ooi.

Fortunately, MACIP 2008 Finalist were invited to attend this spectacular one of a kind fashion show cum concert.

The show started with Landy striking a glamorous pose on a box and performed a sizzling hot dance with futuristic attire.

I've to say it...BRAVO~! This guy can sing both man's and woman's voice simultaneously!

Token of appreciation to all the designers and artistes for putting up such a great show!
At the end of the concert, we got some pictures at the red carpet area too. KT, he is 6' 2" feet tall. And I ain't standing beside him =p

I attended the Damansara Utama Toastmasters Meeting today to support my sister, Chloe, presenting her #2 Speech to become a Competent Toastmaster.

Honestly, I think she did a great job and she managed to add some spice into her speech by relating it to my nephew, Shawn Shawn who think Adolph Hitler as his role model which made me raise my brow for a bit. Of all people on earth? Really?!

Despite all the evil things he has done, and him being a controversial figure, she managed to point out his persuasive character for making the German feel that they are the most powerful man on earth, convince people to do whatever he wants them to do and a man his size( he is tiny) to rule the nation. No doubt until today, his supporters are still around. She even pulled off a few jokes along the way and ended the speech with Shawn's aim is to convince all the kids to give their toys to him. =D Smart boy!

The evaluation part on Chloe's speech, I was not happy about it! The evaluator spent the first half of the speech bringing us around the garden by saying irrelevant points convincing people that he is trying to be nice. He did not point out any strong evidence of her speech that can be improved. Except for her soft voice, mainly because of her wellbeing today. She has flu today but she did not make it as an excuse for not doing well. I salute that.

Anyway, there was a time whereby anyone can volunteer to give comments on the speakers tonight. There, I had an urge to stand up and comment on Chloe's evaluator instead. I guess that is when I realised that I might be a little defensive. He was just trying to help but I just can't take it when he was criticizing Chloe.

So, I restrain myself from expressing any pessimistic gesture by writing my feelings onto my notes. Well, I guess I learned a new technique today. How not to be defensive. I'm not wise yet but at least, I'm making progress.

Now, he designs a men's fashion line.

Well, the new brand is called "LAD". A young street wear brand designed by himself and Funkzu.

The shop will launch by the end November 2008.

By the way, rumors has it...He is going back to Zouk.

Sudah jatuh, ditimpa tangga!

My car got bang few weeks ago while parked at Astro entrance parking space. My phone broke into pieces when it accidentally slipped off my hand, now only the joystick is useable, keypad is spoilt.

I was at A’s having a chill out session with some friends last night. Heading into the kitchen to get some ice, I slipped and fell on the icy floor! The packets of ice were left on the floor and melt causing the kitchen floor wet. AWWWW~! I sat there sobbing in ache for a minute. Then, all of them came to pull me up and place me on the sofa.

I left soon after because it was getting late. It was still painful but bearable. So, I went to bed thinking it will heal after a night rest.

In the morning, I was literally paralysed on my bed. My pelvic hurts and I can barely crawl off the bed. Cleared my throat and shouted out loud for help. My mum helped me up and took off to the hospital. She was worried it might have hurt my backbone.

Two X-rays on my pelvic area and head, equivalent to a few months of natural background radiation. I am gonna stay in the dark soon after the pageant ends. See me only after dawn! Doctor says I did not hurt any bones but I have to be extra careful and try not to stress my back too much.

Gosh, how am I gonna wear heels?!

There is a saying, ‘sudah jatuh, ditimpa tangga’. I guess my story pretty much fits. =(

Last week, MACIP 08 prepared a Go Green! class for the us to broaden our understanding on environmental issues so that we can act as a role model to the people around us.

We are all enthused about changing the world to a greener place but often we don’t know how. That day, I learn how to make Garbage Enzyme. I thought it is interesting, so I will share it with you guys.

Garbage enzyme is the solution to recover our ozone layer and lower the global temperature. Come and discover how you can change your kitchen waste to useful enzyme. Garbage enzyme can be use as natural households cleaner, air purifier, insecticide, detergent, bodycare, car care, organic fertilizer and many more. If everyone of us reduce 45% of garbage than we don’t need to have more landfill around us.

Knowing that garbage enzyme releases Ozone Gas (O_3),a gas that reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) thus reducing global warming and greenhouse effects. I am collecting food wastage to produce it. Plus, it smells good too!

How?

Use an air-tight plastic container. (1.5L mineral bottle)
Dilute sugar in water, follow by adding vegetable and fruit dregs.
Leave some space in the container for fermentation.
Close it tight.
During the first month, gasses will be released during fermentation process. Release the pressure built up in the container to avoid rupturing.
Push the floating garbage downwards every once in a while.
Place in a cool, dry and well ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight. Let it ferment for at least 3 months before use.

VOILA~!

Not sure if I am doing it right but I will find out 3 months later. Then, I can chuck away those detergents to mop the floor, clean the air in my car, and wash dishes. Never like those stuff because my hands dry up every time I use it.

I meet up with some "long time no see" friends who happens to be free this holiday. Well, although it is a holiday but I still look pretty serious bloggin' from LaBodega @Pavilion.

We've been here since noon talkin about T-Shirts labels which is up and famous to T Shirts in those were the days aka. Forest, Cheetah and Schwebach. All my Pendidikan Jasmani attires/ sports wear were by Forest. We even debate about whether BlackBerry or I Phone works better. But, too bad...1 Blackberry VS 3 I Phones here. That pretty much tells who wins, huh.

Now the guys are contemplating whether to go karaoke or head to the club. After 30 minutes, Biggie wants to just walk about and see where we ended up.....

Eventually, after exactly 1 hour 10 minutes..they decided to go to the mos in conjunction with Hari Raya celebration.

Yesterday has been depressing. At 3 am, on the way home from Alvin Ng's new crip, we saw an accident at Taman Connaught U-turn. An X-trail made a quick turn from far left lane to the other end to enter the U turn but missed and bang onto the stone divider. The front bumper fell off and the driver was shocked, remained in his seat until Jiok open up the driver's seat door to wake him. Being girls, we stayed in the car and called for help. After three phone calls to the 103 directory, we figured the highway is managed by Metramac 03 9173 2020. Quite efficient, help arrived within 10 minutes. Eventually, a few towmen stop to help, so, we left the scene to reduce the crowd.

My day started late, I went to Times Square for lunch with Alvin, Biggie and FunkZu. The phone rang and before I knew it, I was already at University Hospital. B's mum passed away in a sudden. In the hospital, the atmosphere was depressing and people were mourning. It reminds me of my 'popo' departing to another world last year.

Suasana tegang for quite a while. Nobody dares to say anything. This is one of the moments where silence is the best conversation. Finally, B broke the silence...Let's go somewhere! Well, now that she is gone, there is nothing left there to stay for. Then, we went to Pavilion and a lot of friends came to cheer B up! We talked, we debated, and we laughed! He seems to be fine but, that is the problem, he buries his sorrows. I am just worried when reality hits him.

On the way home, another accident spotted on Jalan Maarof, Bangsar. The casualty was motionless lying on the floor, believed to be motorcyclist.

Oops, I did it again!!

Another emergency room visitation. Well, I'm not proud to say it isn't my first time. It happened in KL, Shanghai, Taipei and now in Bangsar. I've to admit I am highly accident prone.

I was walking under the bright sun towards Telawi and suddenly my vision blackout. I hurried towards Joyce as I see her walking from across the road. The next thing I know, I got knocked down and injured my head.

Joyce saw me stumbled to the pavement and thought I was making it dramatic entrance as the bag I was holding was quite heavy. Then she came over to hold me and saw blood on my hand. When she lift up my head, all she see was just blood dripping all over.

For 5 minutes, she was looking for my handphone and she got a panic attack herself. I was mourning..Pain..Dizzy...In my head, I was thinking... send me to the clinic or hospital. But I can't say it out loud.

Then some bystanders cameover and offered to send us to the clinic. The clinic doctor reckon I should get my wound stitched up. Luckily, Joyce was around to look after me and settle my errands while waiting for M to come send me to the hospital.

Half an hour later, M arrived and succesfully sent me to Pantai Bangsar after a few wrong turnings. Come on, how can you trust a injured woman's instinct and directions?

As we entered the Emergency Room, the nurses quickly hurried me into the minor surgery room. I was pale and my eyes were pretty swollen due to excessive crying. It is very very very painful.

Later, Renee arrived. Funny is..my aura transfered to M too. He left his car key locked inside the boot. Hahaha..Bryan has to send him back to get the keys.

While waiting for the examination. Joyce and Renee tried to cheer me up and pulled off some rather silly yet ridiculous stunts. I still hope there weren't any CCTV in the surgery room. Well, we had a good laugh. And the best thing is, I get to eat whatever I want, and BaskinRobbins is just around the corner. Joyce got me 3 scoops of ice cream for my breakfast! YEAY...I just couldn't get my hands off it until the nurse urged me to the X-ray room to check my skull. People around were looking at my weirdly as I wheeled through the hall. Maybe because of my silly smile and the ice cream in an emergency room just doesn't fit. Then, we had a picnic acompannied with 1901 hotdogs and Starbucks coffee in the surgery room before the nurse shooed them out off the 'sterile room'. I was given exception to eat in the steriled room with the 'serangan mata bersinar-sinar'/ 'puss-a-boots' big round eyes attack!

I still don't get it, why people just like to play with the wheel chair. Renee started first then M, Bryan was waiting for the chance. He immediately lay his butt on it then moment M got up. Joyce initially find no fun in it then later, she joined the herd.

After a few hours, the doctor arrived to stitch my wound. And gave me a Anti Tetanus jab. Although the doctor tried to calm me and make it as less painful than it already is but still, it was a very awful procedure.

Funny is, the doctor ran out of topic to talk about and I know I need something to divert my attention from the pain during the surgery. So, I started questioning him about his career as a surgeon. And we talked about the doctors in Nip/Tuck (one of my fav drama). He claims it only happen in dramas. Being a doctor is silly, his life is all about the patients, none left for himself.

After 15 minutes, I couldn't bear the pain anymore, I was laughing and talking in high pitch tone. I can literally feel the hook poking through my flesh and thread pulling through. 20 minutes in there was really tiring. I just wanna get home asap and rest.

Now back at home, my only aid to pain is sleeping. Remember, I am allergy to ALL pills form of painkillers. My daily menu is just one color...White.

Mum says I need more protein to speed up the recovery. I cancelled a lot of things due to this accident. So, I'll be good and lock myself up at home to lower my risk of infection and more injuries.

Hold on to your manners

I've been sitting here at the lobby for about 1 hour now, and I saw eight arguements between the security guards and the residents. Well, I am a regular too.

Almost every other single person that passes by the guard has a problem.

Most cases are residents passes the security to the mall for a quick while but are not allowed to go back into the apartments without a valid ID. Furthermore, some have difficulties communicating with each other as the guards has low level of literacy. Thus, the people get frustrated and just walked off.

Worst still, some residents who are apparently close to the guards get to walk in and out freely without being checked . Therefore, it raises the anger of the person who got blocked where else he/she just walk through the security 10 minutes ago. It isn't fair!

There is one who the resident moved the chair from the pool over to the shade but got yelled at for doing so. Apparently, we can't move the portable chairs around even if it is just like less than 5 metres away.

Words like 'bodoh', 'tak faham bahasa' and ... are heard at the lobby. A guy apparently the superior scolding the guards. It is not fine to unabashedly insult someone’s nationality, appearance, or vocation in the public.

If only the guards would approach the residents with a better manner/ being polite. Residents wouldn't get mad so easily.

But overall, it is a good thing that the security here is tight.
