Junk in the bottle: Garbage Enzymes

Follow up from my previous post on Green is the new Black. Well, my bottle didn’t work out. Mainly because I often forget opening the cap every 3 days to release the gas. I totally forgot about it after the first month and my mum threw it away before it explodes. =S

Anyhow, I still have a bottle, courtesy of Just Life. And I add it into my household chores especially into the toilet bowl and mopping the floor. It claims that it helps keep the insects out. Well, preferably…no creature with more than 4 legs or less than 2 legs survive within my territory. >=/

Moreover, cleaning with enzyme is a smart way to avoid using harsh chemicals. I’ve pretty sensitive skin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a definite no no. By the end those Enzyme will reach to the river & the sea and it will safe our environment.

Supporting the Cintailah Sungai Kita. After all, I’m staying right next to Sungai Penchala. Hehm, I used to stay next to Sungai Kerayong when I was younger.

How Garbage Enzyme helps?

  • Remove the foul odor, mold and grime in kitchen and bathroom
  • Anti bacterial and virus
  • Help in driving away insects
  • Remove odor from pets and cigarettes
  • For ticks and carpets
  • For ironing and washing
  • For hallway and bedroom
  • For car maintenance

Thank you for NOT smoking

Ever since my last visit to Singapore, I was looking forward that the next big thing in KL would to the same thing like ban smoking in public places. Here are the top ten reasons this law rules:

10. No need for a full body scrubdown after a Friday night out.

9. If you’re not holding a cig, you can hold another beer.

8. Save shampoo for long hair, ciggy smell stays in your hair unless you wash it at least 3 times.

7. You won’t have to worry about the black lung.

6. The only hot butt in the room will be yours.

5. Febreeze will no longer be your signature scent.

4. Guys will be forced to actually ask for your number, rather than bum a cig then hang around ’til last call being awkward.

3. You can take that RM 9 and buy something nice for yourself. Like three bottles of Listerine.

2. Manicurists for miles will be thankful for the demise of the yellow nail.

1. Clearer skin + healthier heart = totally smokin’.

GREEN is the new black!

Last week, MACIP 08 prepared a Go Green! class for the us to broaden our understanding on environmental issues so that we can act as a role model to the people around us.

We are all enthused about changing the world to a greener place but often we don’t know how. That day, I learn how to make Garbage Enzyme. I thought it is interesting, so I will share it with you guys.

Garbage enzyme is the solution to recover our ozone layer and lower the global temperature. Come and discover how you can change your kitchen waste to useful enzyme. Garbage enzyme can be use as natural households cleaner, air purifier, insecticide, detergent, bodycare, car care, organic fertilizer and many more. If everyone of us reduce 45% of garbage than we don’t need to have more landfill around us.

Knowing that garbage enzyme releases Ozone Gas (O3), a gas that reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) thus reducing global warming and greenhouse effects. I am collecting food wastage to produce it. Plus, it smells good too!

How?

  • Use an air-tight plastic container. (1.5L mineral bottle)
  • Dilute sugar in water, follow by adding vegetable and fruit dregs.
  • Leave some space in the container for fermentation.
  • Close it tight.
  • During the first month, gasses will be released during fermentation process. Release the pressure built up in the container to avoid rupturing.
  • Push the floating garbage downwards every once in a while.
  • Place in a cool, dry and well ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight. Let it ferment for at least 3 months before use.

VOILA~!

Not sure if I am doing it right but I will find out 3 months later. Then, I can chuck away those detergents to mop the floor, clean the air in my car, and wash dishes. Never like those stuff because my hands dry up every time I use it.

Going Green

She’s got the whole world in her hand, but Mother Nature sure gets a bum rap. Show some love today and every day by committing to a few earth-friendly activities.

  • Pay attention to how you use water. Every time you turn off the water while you’re brushing your teeth, you’re doing something good. Got a leaky toilet? You might be wasting 200 gallons of water a day.
  • Leave your car at home. If you can stay off the road just two days a week, you’ll reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 1,590 pounds per year. Combine your errands — go to the post office, grocery store and shoe repair place in one trip. It will save you petrol and time.
  • Walk or ride your bicycle to work, school and anywhere you can. You can reduce greenhouse gases while burning some calories and improving your health. If you can’t walk or bike, use mass transit or carpool.
  • Recycle. You can help reduce pollution just by putting that soda can in a different bin. If you’re trying to choose between two products, pick the one with the least packaging. If an office building of 7,000 workers recycled all of its office paper waste for a year, it would be the equivalent of taking almost 400 cars off the road.
  • Change your light bulbs. Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) last 10 times longer than a standard bulb and use at least two-thirds less energy.
  • Make your home more energy efficient (and save money). Clean your air filters so your system doesn’t have to work overtime. Get a programmable thermostat so you aren’t wasting energy when you aren’t home. When you go to bed, reduce the thermostat setting to 2 celcius can save about 900kg of carbon dioxide a year— you won’t miss those extra degrees of heat or air conditioning while you’re asleep.
  • Pump up your tyres. Keeping your car tyres inflated properly can improve petrol mileage by more than 3%. Every 4.4 litres of petrol saved keeps 9kg of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
  • Drive smarter. Slow down — driving 60 mph instead of 70 mph on the highway will save you up 4 miles per gallon. Accelerating and braking too hard can actually reduce your fuel economy, so take it easy on the brakes and gas pedal.
  • Turn off lights, fans, and Astro (electronic devices) when you’re not in the room and unplug appliances when you’re not using them. It only takes a second to be environmentally conscious.
  • Watch The 11th Hour. Catch Leonardo DiCaprio explores matters such as what we can do as global citizens to change the course mankind is headed with friends.
