A weekend @ OU - continued

Life of a Carpet Haired: Sarung tetek dan banyak lagi.

Just ignore ta title. Nothing 18SX about this post. Just an update as stated regarding the weekend I spent at OU. I don't have a camera thus, all my photo resources comes from Jiok.

If your life were any more on track, you’d have “KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu)” stamped on your forehead.

  • Perfect boyfriend? Check.
  • Happening social life? Yuh huh.
  • Kickass job that actually supports your spenny lifestyle? Yup.

Except. There’s a void. Some extra love to give. If only you had something small and cute to give it to.

I’m talking about a dog! A healthy four-years-old basset-hound is vet checked, and flea free who just want some love after being abandoned by owner, straying on the street in a bad condition.

Missing hair? No sweat, it was because of fleas, not skin problem and his hair will grow back in no time. He has dry eyes thus daily eye drop needed. A small adoption fee of RM205 charged to reimburse cost of neutering, vaccination and heartworm test.

For more information, call 017-3386317, no play play! Klang Valley.

Now you’re really on the right track.

Take things for granted

Lately, I've been making judgments ahead and strikes before everyone else does. The proverbs 'time and tide wait for no man' and 'strike when it is hot' works for me pretty well until I got an email from someone superior that commented on my pace for leaping too fast. And I might have offended some people along the way, unintentionally. Well, I think everything has been very smooth for me thus I kind of overlooked some things; others' feeling. In other words, taking things for granted. Sorry for the hick-up, promise I'd look before I leap next time.

Going Green

She’s got the whole world in her hand, but Mother Nature sure gets a bum rap. Show some love today and every day by committing to a few earth-friendly activities.

  • Pay attention to how you use water. Every time you turn off the water while you’re brushing your teeth, you’re doing something good. Got a leaky toilet? You might be wasting 200 gallons of water a day.
  • Leave your car at home. If you can stay off the road just two days a week, you’ll reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 1,590 pounds per year. Combine your errands — go to the post office, grocery store and shoe repair place in one trip. It will save you petrol and time.
  • Walk or ride your bicycle to work, school and anywhere you can. You can reduce greenhouse gases while burning some calories and improving your health. If you can’t walk or bike, use mass transit or carpool.
  • Recycle. You can help reduce pollution just by putting that soda can in a different bin. If you’re trying to choose between two products, pick the one with the least packaging. If an office building of 7,000 workers recycled all of its office paper waste for a year, it would be the equivalent of taking almost 400 cars off the road.
  • Change your light bulbs. Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) last 10 times longer than a standard bulb and use at least two-thirds less energy.
  • Make your home more energy efficient (and save money). Clean your air filters so your system doesn’t have to work overtime. Get a programmable thermostat so you aren’t wasting energy when you aren’t home. When you go to bed, reduce the thermostat setting to 2 celcius can save about 900kg of carbon dioxide a year— you won’t miss those extra degrees of heat or air conditioning while you’re asleep.
  • Pump up your tyres. Keeping your car tyres inflated properly can improve petrol mileage by more than 3%. Every 4.4 litres of petrol saved keeps 9kg of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
  • Drive smarter. Slow down — driving 60 mph instead of 70 mph on the highway will save you up 4 miles per gallon. Accelerating and braking too hard can actually reduce your fuel economy, so take it easy on the brakes and gas pedal.
  • Turn off lights, fans, and Astro (electronic devices) when you’re not in the room and unplug appliances when you’re not using them. It only takes a second to be environmentally conscious.
  • Watch The 11th Hour. Catch Leonardo DiCaprio explores matters such as what we can do as global citizens to change the course mankind is headed with friends.

Are we measured by the no of As?

Watch this.

Ring any bell? Well, I grew up in a typical family that stresses a lot on the As. During the government education days, the rankings are A – Excellent, B – Good, C – Pass, D – Fail (RED pen).

In diploma, University of Science Malaysia(Communications, Advertising), the rankings, CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) are as follow:

  • 80 – 100 A 4.00
  • 75 – 79 A- 3.67
  • 70 – 74 B+ 3.33
  • 65 – 69 B 3.00
  • 60 – 64 B- 2.67
  • 55 – 59 C+ 2.33
  • 50 – 54 C 2.00
  • 45 – 49 C- 1.67
  • Any lower than 40 never happen. Thank god!

But my dad doesn’t know anything bout CGPA. He’d only approve/recognize As. When I show him my results with some A and A- in it, he’d automatically assume that there is

  • Ranking 1 – A+
  • Ranking 2 – A,
  • Ranking 3 – A-,

Thus, for him, A- is equivalent to a C. I tried so hard to convince him there isn’t any A+. Just A followed by A-, and it is still an A. I almost have a heart attack every time I try to explain this to him.

In degree, University of South Australia (Journalism), I’m yet to get my first term result, and the best thing is, it starts with

  • 85 – 100 HD High Distinction
  • 75 – 84 D Distinction
  • 65 – 74 C Credit
  • 55 – 64 P1 Pass Level 1
  • 50 – 54 P2 Pass Level 2
  • Any lower than 50. This will not happen.

I’m hoping to get at least D but on the other hand, I’ll have to go through the whole process of explaining why D is higher ranking than C to my dad. STRESS~! Can’t they just keep to the conventional ranking we have in school? It makes my life so much easier.

As for me, survival + social skills will get me further in my life rather than the no of As.

a rainy april

When raindrops keep falling on your head, it’s hard to feel happy and balanced. It has been pouring in the evening daily for the past whole week. Plus the amount of work I have on the table makes me feel a little distressed. I can’t wait till April ends, May is the beginning of holiday~!

Oh well, there is something to cheer about for the month of April though. No other than my buddies’ birthdays, the double A (Alex + Alvin). Alex - 4 April. Alvin – 10 April.

Who?| alvin | hoe mun | kyanmay | suet yee | wai sum | jiok | alex |
What? Double As Birthday
Where? MarketPlace, Jalan Yap Kwan Seng
When? 4 April 2008
How?

  • Drink white wine and eat cupcakes.
  • Blow candles and make all the people around sing for the double As.
  • Chat on "shock of my life"

Supposingly, there is another celebration for Alvin but everyone was busy that night, therefore the night was called off. And I ordered a dozen of donuts which I ate all by myself over the weekend!

A weekend in OU...waiting

Tired | Run down | Short on energy | Find myself staring at the clock hours before the alarm sounds |

Well, that pretty much describes me for the weekend. It was exhausting; waiting is actually a very tough. I scrutinized every single shop in One Utama, try on all the things I intended to buy, watch a couple of movies and read in the bookstore. After the 1st day, people who work in OU actually recognize me, and most probably wondering why is this girl walking around all the time for a few days.

I’m just glad my job is done! Most probably, I won't be going to OU anytime soon. Oh, just in case you’re wondering why the heck I spent the weekend in OU instead of working on my ‘Mount Everest’ of assignments, I was there for the Triumph New Logo Launch. More pictures would be posted up soon. I’m yet to collect it from my personal photog, Jiok. =D

Can you spot me?
